Snowdrops

Spring is here? It is about this time that we get fooled into thinking that spring is just around the corner. A mild spell promotes a spurt of growth from some of the winter-flowering plants and, as their sap rises, so do our hops. All to often they will be dashed by weeks of dreary cold, wind and (if we are lucky) rain. But, maybe this year will repeat the freak weather of 2000, when we were taking our four-month-old baby out for walks in February in temperatures of 60 degrees C!

Snowdrops pose the usual problem for the photographer; pure white flowers against dark, shadowed foliage produces so much contrast that it lies outwith the dynamic range of the sensor. Fortunately, Photoshop can come to the rescue, although this is the type of shot where nowadays I might try taking two shots, one exposed for the flowers, and one for the shadows, and merging them.
